I understand that cancer treatments, particularly chemo, can seem daunting. But here’s some good news: the medical field has made huge strides in managing the side effects. There are also alternative therapies available, like acupuncture, which really helped me with nausea during my treatment … Remember what Winnie the Pooh said: “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Taking this decision could make a world of difference for your future.
My husband, Javy, and my mom were my dynamic duo for doctor’s appointments, asking all the right questions and making sure we got the lowdown on every treatment option. My kids totally stepped up, too. Family and friends showed their love in so many ways… Friends on their own cancer journeys shared every helpful tip, from dealing with insurance to recipes for battling nausea… But if I had to pick one person, it would be my friend, Tim Moreno. When I was diagnosed, he was already nine months into his own battle with a rare form of sarcoma. Despite his tougher prognosis, Tim, with the loving support of his wife Monica, showed me what strength and bravery look like. Tim fought hard, always with humor. (He also taught me to focus on the “now,” to embrace) each moment as it comes… Tim taught me to celebrate every small victory and to see the beauty amid hardship. Through his example, I learned to appreciate the blessings along the way, realizing that even in tough times, there are always roses among the thorns. I’m still learning, but I’m getting better at it every day. It’s a journey, and I’m grateful for the progress I’ve made.
