About 70 members of the ICANSERVE Foundation community, mostly from its private group on Facebook, soaked up learning and fun at Alamin Salamin, a beauty forum and workshop held on September 30 at the Bamboo Function Room of Brittany Hotel BGC.

ICANSERVE volunteer Abbygale Arenas-De Leon hosted the event, in which industry stalwarts Lala Flores, Celeste Tuviera and Liz Uy served as resource persons who taught participants the basics of hair, makeup and wardrobe styling, respectively.

Former model now entrepreneur and makeup artist Flores shared beauty and skin care tips. She taught a make-up application technique that would help cancer survivors address concerns over how they look, and gave advice about shades and color palettes to match their skin tone after cancer treatment.

Hairdresser to the stars Tuviera shared her own cancer journey being a hair stylist, inspiring her audience with her determination to give back to the cancer community. The audience learned how to deal with hair loss by using wigs, scarves and other hair accessories.

Celebrity stylist Uy provided advice on wardrobe and styling, particularly for those with one breast or no breasts; those with a condition called lymphedema, which presents with swelling of the affected arm; and those dealing with scars on their chest.

Annabelle Fajardo, who is living with Stage 4 breast cancer, underwent a makeover, serving as model for the resource persons, and fellow ICANSERVE sisters eager to learn new skills that may be a source of additional income in the future.

ICANSERVE president Nikoy de Guzman said the foundation will schedule continuing education on hair styling and Alamin Salamin is the first of such endeavors. “The goal is to eventually provide livelihood opportunities and make the learning sustainable by having our participants acquire skills with constancy, consistency and focus.”

ICANSERVE is grateful to the De Guzmán Group, Tupperware, VICE Cosmetics, GSIS, Future Glow Philippines, Biocostech for Iŵhite Korea, Good Deal Consumer Goods Store, Dimax Food Wholesaling and FUTURE Glow for Aera and Sparkle for generously contributing for the health and beauty kits taken home by all participants.
