The mention of “radiation” can still be intimidating to many cancer patients, especially when there is a lack of understanding or information on how this energy is used to attack cancer cells. Likewise, the side effects can be daunting if one does not know what to expect.
To shed more light on the life-saving procedure, the St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Department and the ICanServe Foundation presented “Everything You Wanted to Know About Radiation But Were Shy To Ask,” a forum open to the public and free of charge, held on July 11, 2015, Saturday, at the Henry Sy, Sr. Auditorium on the 5th floor of St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City.
Addressing common cancers, especially breast cancer, the forum was hosted by TV personality, blogger and entrepreneur Daphne Osena-Paez, and featured as speakers radiation oncologist Dr. Jose Roel Resubal, who explained in detail how radiation works, and journalist, breast cancer survivor and ICanServe volunteer Alya Honasan, who shared her experience of undergoing 33 sessions of radiation in 2014 for breast cancer.
