MARIVIC BUGASTO, ICanServe coordinator for the Cordillera Region, President, Minda’s Buddies, living with Stage 4 breast cancer since 2007
When I was first diagnosed with cancer, it felt like my world had been turned upside down. The journey through treatment was challenging and often overwhelming, but amidst the trials, a profound and unexpected opportunity emerged.
Initially, the idea of advocating for others in the cancer community seemed like an unreachable goal. However, as I navigated my path, I found a deep well of empathy and a strong desire to make a difference. My experiences with cancer gave me a unique perspective on the challenges and needs faced by patients and their families. I realized I could contribute to something greater than myself by sharing my story and using my voice.
The cancer experience deepened my empathy and compassion for others going through similar struggles and led me to a desire to help and support those in need. This feeling was the empowering force that encouraged me to be a volunteer advocate in breast cancer advocacy.
