The country’s foremost abstract impressionist artist Mayie Delgado on July 15 launched his latest exhibit of abstract fine art photography, Unchartered Universe, in the Tower Club.
The Tower Club at Philamlife Tower, 8767 Paseo de Roxas in Makati City made ICanServe Foundation a beneficiary of Mr. Delgado’s exhibit.
A soiree of awe-inspiring images, Unchartered Universe showcases 34 of the internationally-lauded artist’s works from his Gallery’s chamber of limited editions–some never before seen. The week-long exhibit is consists of eight different series of works, each depicting a facet of an emblematic abstract universe. The photographic images, presented on canvas and of dimensions of over two and three feet on average, are purposely shown in such scale in the hopes that the viewer extracts from the image the experience of being transferred to an otherworldly place. “The size of the art allows the viewer to dive in and be immersed in his own interpretative journey of the works on canvas,” said Mr. Delgado.
Mr. Delgado has been taking photographs since the age of 14, traveling the world over to memorialize fleeting moments in time. He held his first exhibit in 2005, and word soon caught on about the renaissance abstract artist. In 2007, he released his first photography book, Poetic Images. The 100 photographs in his book were divided into eight categories: wood, rocks, flora, reflections, jewelry, deco, sand, and sea. The book was edited by Alfred Yuson and each chapter contained prose and poetry interpretations from the country’s finest writers including Dr. Edith Tiempo, Dr. Ricardo de Ungria, Dr. Marjorie Evasco, Dr. Cirilo F. Bautista, Dr. Ophelia Alcantara-Dimalanta, Lourd Ernest De Veyra, Dr. Gemino Abad and Cid Reyes.
Mr. Delgado held several exhibits since 2005, culminating in the opening of the Mayie Fine Art Photography Gallery in March, 2011. Due to the demand for his works, there are talks of exhibits in New York and Beverly Hills in 2012.
The exhibit is sponsored by Philippine National Bank, Silver Secrets and Samsung. A portion of proceeds will be donated to ICanServe Foundation.
