Philips and the ICanServe Foundation conducted a breast cancer forum and free screening for 50 women of Barangay Matandang Balara, Quezon City on March 16 , 2013.
The activity formed part of Philips Simply Healthy campaign focusing on educating families on women’s health, the environment and nutrition. Philips country manager Fabia Bueno said Philips chose Matandang Balara as pilot and partners like ICanServe because of shared “values and aspirations towards health care.”
The forum was led by cancer survivor, director, writer and ICanServe spokesperson Bibeth Orteza. She shared her story of survivorship to encourage the female audience to take charge of their health and do regular breast examinations.
Joining her were ICanServe co-founder Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala; ICanServe executive director Lanie Eusebio; ICanServe volunteers Dr. Cecille Montales and Dina Mendez; and doctors and barangay health workers from Taguig and Marikina cities. Taguig and Marikina are among ICanServe’s local government partners for the foundation’s community-based early breast cancer detection program called Ating Dibdibin.
